What is Laser Resurfacing?

Laser skin rejuvenation works to improve the appearance of skin imperfections caused by aging, sun damage and various skin problems. With the Contour TRL or Halo erbium laser systems, Dr. Becker uses the laser to rejuvenate the skin to effectively treat lines and wrinkles, facial scarring, brown spots as well as many other skin issues. Laser resurfacing is customized for each individual to treat his or her skin concerns.

For example, minor skin blemishes such as uneven skin tone or rough areas may only need a very light treatment to the very most out layer of the skin to achieve the desired result. For things like the deeper lines that can sometimes form around the mouth or eyes, or cobblestoned texture of the face, a more in depth treatment plan is usually necessary. Dr. Becker can help you determine which treatments will help you best achieve your goals.

Microlaser Peel (Nanolaser Peel/Weekend Peel)

The Microlaser Peel, uses the Contour TRL laser to treat the outer-most layer of the skin and improve skin complexion.

A high level of comfort for the procedure is achieved with just a simple application of topical numbing cream and a cool air chiller. The microlaser peel takes less than 20 minutes and is an effective treatment for skin conditions such as:

Uneven pigmentation
Sun damage
Keratosis (dry rough patches)
Patients can expect healthier, smoother skin that appears more vibrant with better texture and complexion. Patients finish peeling within a few days, but exact times can vary slightly depending on the depth of the laser treatment chosen, which is customized to the patients skin type and needs.

Halo Hybrid Fractionated Laser Resurfacing

Halo’s fractionated system combines ablative and non-ablative laser technology to produce dramatic results in fewer treatments than other popular fractionated laser systems. Individual results may vary.

By combining these two technologies, Halo can deliver ablative results with downtime that is similar to a purely non-ablative laser. The addition of ablative laser energy also produces remarkable results, in far fewer sessions. Individual results may vary.

Halo is performed using a topical anesthetic cream and cool air chiller, resulting in a very high level of comfort for our patients. Treatments are customized based on skin type. Halo differs from microlaser peels in that the depth of treatment is greater, resulting in better improvement in lines and wrinkles as well as improvement in complexion, usually over 2 or 3 treatments. Halo can also be use to improve skin texture and tone on other body parts, such as the neck and décolleté.

What to Expect:

Thirty minutes to an hour before the treatment, you’ll receive a topical anesthetic on your skin to reduce the sensation during the procedure. The area will be measured to precisely determine the amount of laser energy for your face. State of the art motion tracking technology in the hand piece creates an even treatment. Our specialists will treat each measured section by uniformly rolling the Halo hand-piece over your skin, until the system recognizes the treatment is complete. With a topical anesthetic and integrated cooling technology, most patients experience very little discomfort.Individual results may vary.

Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with occasional prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable. After the treatment, most patients describe that the face feels hot for an additional 45 – 90 minutes, or a bit longer with deeper treatment levels. After this, there is only mild tenderness to the touch lasting about 48 hours.

Back to Your Normal Routine Within 48 Hours:

For the first 24 hours you should keep your skin protected according to Dr. Becker’s instructions, but after that you should be able to go about your normal activities. After the first 24 -48 hours, your skin will begin to peel, but you will be able to apply makeup. For a facial treatment, you will see very little change on the first day. After two to three days you will develop a light bronzing appearance. By day three or four your skin will peel, revealing your new skin beneath.

When Will I See Results?

You will see initial results between two and five days after your Halo treatment, but your skin will continue to improve over time. Most patients see the greatest pigmentary improvement in the first two to three weeks. This is followed by a dermal regeneration phase that continues to improve for months. Halo results will last for five to seven years, but you should continue to keep your skin protected at all times using UV sunscreen to protect your new, healthy skin. Contact Dr. Becker to schedule a consultation and learn how Halo can make your skin radiant, healthy and beautiful for years to come.
