WHAT ARE FACIAL IMPLANTS?
Facial implants are specially designed hard silicone implants that are used to enhance the contours of the face, most commonly the cheekbones and the chin. Using relatively small openings hidden in naturally occurring facial creases or even under the lip, a precise pocket is created along the cheek or jaw and the implant is secured in place. Implants come in a variety of contours to best meet the desires of the patient.

IS A FACIAL IMPLANT RIGHT FOR YOU?
Facial implants may be used to restore or enhance the cheekbones or augment the chin to add proportion or balance to a face. Unlike dermal filler, the volume added by an implant will never change, which also makes it a more predictable procedure than fat grafting. It can also be easily reversed without changing the pre-operative appearance of the treated area.
Cheek and chin implants are best for patients who are in otherwise good health, without significant dental conditions, since they are typically placed near the teeth.

FACIAL IMPLANT RECOVERY:
Patients can expect moderate swelling and mild bruising after surgery. When incisions inside the mouth are used, it is important to rinse after each meal. Sutures in the skin are removed after 5-7 days. Sutures inside the mouth are dissolvable and do not need to be removed. Ice packs and sleeping in a mildly reclined position can help minimize swelling. Much of the swelling will be resolved after 2 weeks, after which, milder swelling can linger for 2-3 months.
