Botox injections are a popular cosmetic treatment and have become a go-to solution for a variety of aesthetic concerns. Collectively known as botulinum type A injections (or neurotoxin/tox injections), they work by temporarily paralyzing muscles, which can smooth out wrinkles and fine lines. Dr. Adam Becker at Triangle Facial Plastic Surgery in Raleigh administers a variety of neurotoxin injections (including Botox, Dysport and Xeomin) to his patients’ to address the cosmetic issues below to deliver beautiful, natural looking results that last approximately 3-4 months.

1. Forehead Lines
One of the most common areas treated with neurotoxins is the forehead. Horizontal lines that form due to repetitive facial expressions can be significantly reduced, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance. Depending on the individual patient, an estimated 8-20 units may be injected into the forehead to achieve the desired result.
2. Frown Lines
Also known as glabellar lines or “11s,” these vertical lines between the eyebrows are another frequent target for Botox. By relaxing the muscles that cause these furrows, Botox helps to soften their appearance. An estimated 10-30 units may be injected in between the eyebrows to achieve the desired result. In cases where frown lines are more severe, a dermal filler may be necessary to achieve a more desirable result.
3. Crow’s Feet
The fine lines that radiate from the corners of the eyes, often referred to as crow’s feet, can be minimized with neurotoxin injections. This treatment helps to maintain a youthful and refreshed look around the eyes. An estimated 2-16 units may be injected around the corner of each eye to achieve the desired result.
4. Brow Lift
Botox can be used to achieve a subtle brow lift. By injecting neurotoxins into specific areas, the muscles that pull the eyebrows down are relaxed, allowing the muscles that lift the brows to work more effectively.
5. Bunny Lines
These are the lines that appear on the sides of the nose when you scrunch it. Neurotoxin injections can help reduce the appearance of these lines, creating a smoother nose area. Dr. Becker typically injects 2-4 units into the sides of the nasal bridge to smooth bunny lines.
6. Lip Flip
Fine lines around the mouth, sometimes called smoker’s lines, can be softened with neurotoxins. This treatment can enhance the smoothness of the lips and surrounding skin. Approximately 2-4 units may be injected into the bottom corners of the mouth and at the cupids bow on the top lip to smooth out lines and result in a fuller, plumper upper lip. A lip flip is often considered as an alternative to lip filler injections.
7. Chin Dimples
A dimpled or “orange peel” appearance of the chin can be improved with neurotoxin injections. By relaxing the mentalis muscle, the skin on the chin appears smoother. 4-8 units are typically injected into the chin to smooth out chin dimples.
8. Neck Bands
Vertical neck bands, or platysmal bands, can become more prominent with age. Neurotoxins can be injected into these bands to reduce their appearance and create a smoother neck profile. 6-8 units on each side of the neck is typically injected to achieve the desired result.
9. Gummy Smile
For those who show a significant amount of gum when they smile, neurotoxins can help. By relaxing the upper lip, neurotoxins can reduce the exposure of gums, leading to a more balanced smile.
Neurotoxin injections are a temporary versatile treatment with a variety of applications to turn back the hands of time and rejuvenate the aging face.
